Venezuelan Navy signs USD431 million in orders for 20 new vessels
Inigo Guevara, Mexico City – IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly
The Venezuelan Navy has ordered 20 new patrol and logistics vessels from Damen Shipyards totalling USD431 million, Venezuela’s Official Gazette confirmed on 4 March.
Funding for the orders was approved on 21 February and is sourced from the National Development Fund.
Under this new buy, the navy placed orders for six Stan Patrol 5009 offshore patrol vessels and six Stan Patrol 4207 coastal patrol vessels to augment its presence in Venezuela’s jurisdictional waters.
The Stan patrol 5009s are being ordered through a USD173 million contract that is part of Phase I of the Atlantic Fleet Development Programme and will be the first of the type in South America.
